reordering contacts

For some contacts I want to keep old addresses. New addresses are added at the end. When typing in a contacts name only a small number of addresses are shown starting from the top of the list which would be the least current address (given as stated above that new addresses are appended not prepended). Is there a way to reorder the list (w/o) deleting and retyping so at least the most current is at the top? It would make more sense to add new addresses at the top and not the bottom of the list.
