How iCloud Photos works on your PC

I was doing some experiments with iCloud syncing of photos to my Windows 10 desktop.

After installing iCloud from the store (and enabling only iCloud Drive and Photos), I took a photo on my iPhone and after a little while, it appeared in the 'Downloads' folder.

I was then able to see the 'photo' using Microsoft Photo. If I tried to edit the photo, MS Photo wouldn't let me over-write the file stored in the iCloud Downloads folder.

I then tried to delete the photo in the Icloud Downloads folder and this succeeded. I notice that the 'delete' wasn't uploaded to iCloud (the original photo is still there) and that it appears that if you delete a photo in the 'Downloads' folder, iCloud won't re-sync it.

Is this the same behaviour for others?

Windows, Windows 10
