How can I force Photos to sync with iCloud?
I took some pictures today and they don't show up on my Mac. I shutdown Photos on my Mac and the camera app and photos on my iPhone and restarted them. Nothing. Ideas?

I fully agree. Some way to force upload.
I have the exact same issue and have rebooted, updated software, re-started the software and much more and it still does not upload. The count stays at "uploading 257 items".

It updated. I really have no idea why.
Apple ought to consider some “secret menu” system for forcing updates and other workarounds just in case things fail. Then the UI is not polluted, but if things go wrong there’s a handy fix that’s easy to discover.
Check the status on your phone.
Open Photos
Tap library
Scroll to the bottom
You'll see an item count and beneath that, the iCloud status.
When I open the photos app, click on library (at bottom of app screen), it often shows that the upload has been stopped (different work, but can't remember what it is but you get the idea). How can I get it to automatically sync from iphone to macbook laptop?
