Renaming Apple Pencil (gen 1)

I followed the steps to rename my Apple Pencil (gen 1 iPad Pro 2017) but when I clicked the i icon next to the pencil, which was connected ,no rename option was there. Any ideas on how I could rename it or just put my name in-front of it in case I loose it?
