When I try to add an e mail account to Mail I go through adding my name, may e mail address and password, I get to the section where you have to add which apps you want to use Mail, Note, etc. I click Done, then Next, then nothing happens. I have looed at other suggestions about freeing up space on my drive buy as there is over 100gb free, I don't imagine this is the problem. Any suggestions?

Solved this problem by:
2. Finder, Go, "option key" (this shows the "Library" folder), Keychains folder in Library
3. Inside the Keychains folder there are at least two files that conflict with one another. I deleted them all.
4. Restart the computer, log into your original account, go to Internet Accounts and try to add the problem email or exchange account. In my case, Success!
5.Log into iCloud

Did you try to add this account using the Mail app? If so, try going to System Preferences > Internet Accounts. and adding the account there.
Yes I have used the Mail app and System Preferences, neither work.
