IMO, Final Cut Pro X would be an ideal candidate for a subscription plan while keeping the one-time pricing. I can't afford $299 but I could see paying $9.99/month.
I am suggesting both models because I know a lot of people hate subscriptions, so don't flame me!

I have to agree with Al. Too many people would get turned off by a subscription model and FCP is such a bargain. I'd hate to even get Apple thinking along subscription lines. If you use the free trial and like it, you can always save a little each month until you have enough to purchase.

I paid $299AU for FCP X and it has not cost me one cent more since June 2011.

That's exactly why I suggested both models. You're not happy with a subscription and I can't afford $299 (I'm 72 years old and on a limited income).
