Every time I click in the middle of a word to type (say because I misspelled a word and want to fix it) my cursor jumps to the end of the line after one keystroke.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
After trying the aforementioned Safe Mode....
Which app are you using here that’s showing this behavior?
Or is this happening within multiple apps?
