I've tried all sorts of remedies, but i'm stymied.... all of a sudden, i can no longer access my gmail account on my macbook air... no problem accessing on my phone or other devices, just the macbook air.... which is my main business computer.

If you mean you cannot access it using a browser such as Safari TheLittles advice should do it for you. If you are using an email reader like Apple’s Mail program, often the solution is to delete the Gmail account from email and then re-establish it.
Try Clearing Your Temporary Internet Files: History and Cache
Cleaning your history would rid of all login credentials. Clearing the cache would result in all sites to loading like new and to a clear up-to-date default appearance.
