Notifications of the receipt for mail

The red round ball containing a number does not appear over my mail app. It does for messages and other apps.

iPhone XR, iOS 12

Change alert styles

To add or change an alert style for a notification:

Go to Settings > Notifications.
Select an app under Notification Style.
Choose a type of alert and banner style.

You can also turn sounds and badges on or off.

Make sure badges is turned on.

Thank you for that information! I have done that; however, with other apps there is also a category says “Notification grouping” which does not appear in my mail app. I thought that might be the key to turning on the red ball with a number of emails received. That red ball appears in my other apps, like Messages. But, it does not (it used to) appear on my mail app. I’m trying to find how to display that red ball with a number. Thank you!!

I apologize! My badges switch is turned on, but they are still not appearing. Could it be a setting in Gmail?

Badges are the red circle with the number.

Unsure, but you can check (my iPhone is currently charging), but it be 'Settings > Accounts & Passwords > (Your Email)'.

I checked my phone and the only place I see badges is 'Settings > Notifications > Mail > Badges', unless it started working I would try turning it off and on and restart then phone.
