How to remove the white box on finder

I change the view of my finder from icons to gallery and when I switched back to icons I get this annoying white box on the right side of every file I open. I can close it by minimising the box but I need a permanent solution. I'm sure it's just a setting but I can't find anything to turn it off

I'm running Mojave 10.14.5 on a Macbook

Thanks!!

MacBook, macOS 10.14

It's called the "Preview" pane. To get rid of it, make sure the Finder window is selected, then select "Hide Preview" from the "View" menu.
