A MP4 (or MPEG-4) is a digital audio container typically used to store video and audio, but can also contain other data. Audio-only MPEG-4 containers typically have a .m4a extension, especially without digital rights. Whereas, .m4p files are protected.

Regardless, even if you can convert either an .m4a or .m4p file to text, it would appear as gibberish in a text editor. Is there some reason you want or need to do this? Are you trying to do text transcriptions of a video or audio file? If so there are a number of online sites that offer this service.
