I have a video in MKV format which has embedded subtitles. It isn't supported by iTunes and I must convert it to a supported format. But when I am converting the video, the embedded subtitles are getting erased. How do I convert this video for Apple TV without losing the embedded subtitles?

You may try to use the application Handbrake for Macintosh or Windows. It allows for converting MKV files to just about every format. You may also try using an application for Apple TV that supports watching MKV files. The first that comes to mind is Infuse.
Infuse allows you to connect to a shared folder from your Mac or PC and streams the video file over the network.
Alternatively if you have a Macintosh made after 2012 you can AirPlay your display to the Apple TV.

There is no problem in playing an unsupported video format on iPad, PlayerXtreme enables you to play any format on iPad/iPhone. The actual issue is of subtitles. PlayerXtreme free version allows you to play any videos, but requires subscription if you want to show subtitles.

Read my reply. This isn't an issue. I am already using PlayerXtreme, which allows us to play any format on iPad.

I have used handbrake before. It surely has an option for adding subtitles file, but how to retain the embedded subtitles in it? I want to keep the embedded subtitles, not add them from a separate .srt file.
