Ultra Slim Portable Blu-Ray Writer for MAC won't play disc

The drive seems to work right out of the box - my Macbook Air recognizes the blu ray, but when I double click to play, it shows 2 folders - AACS and CERTIFICATE and 1 Quicktime file called BDMV which won't play.

Any advice??

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.14

They're only saying don't because you can watch your movie on a standard Blu-ray set top player on your TV.

But if you must, or just want to watch a Blu-ray movie on your Mac, then purchasing one of the software titles mentioned is your only option. There's no other way to view them.

For what it's worth, you can get MacGo Blu-ray Player Pro for $50 directly from their site, rather than paying $65 for the exact same thing on the App Store. $40 for the non Pro version.

Mac's and Blu-ray disks work just fine together. All you need it Blu-ray playback software to go with your Ultra Slim Portable Blu-Ray Writer.

The only reason they market optical drives for Mac or PC is that many PC bundles come with the necessary software to play back DVD or Blu-ray disks, and Mac bundles don't. Otherwise, the drives themselves are identical. There isn't one thing about the hardware itself that makes them a Mac version.

I actually don't want to watch dvd's on my Mac...I watch a lot of movies outside with my projector streaming from my macbook.

Adding a blu ray in the mix would allow me to watch more titles, since the macbook doesn't have a cd drive, BUT now I'm thinking I could just plug the dvd player directly into the projector and bypass the macbook altogether, since they don't play well together.
