Synced devices

My son uses my iPad as his and all of his photos are showing up on my laptop in photos. How do I unsync the two devices?

iPad mini 4, iOS 12

If your son is using your Apple ID on the iPad, make sure the photos on the iPad are full resolution photos. Then go to Settings/Your Name/iCloud and turn Photos syncing off.

You could also get your son his own Apple ID to use on the iPad so that data synced to iCloud would be separate from your data in iCloud. You can set up Family Sharing to allow your son to be able to access previous purchases. When changing the ID on the iPad, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed.
