how remove searchmine malware from safari and chrome

My Mac mini is infected with searchmine malware that causes webpages to jump to Yahoo and places pages for mac helper apps on my screen. In Chrome searchmine shows up as the default search engine and can't be removed. How do I eliminate this?

Mac mini, macOS 10.14

After using Malwarebytes I discovered that one should go to System Preferences and look for "Profiles." If you don't see a listing for "Profiles" it means there are none. If you see it, click and look at profiles you find there. Probably you can delete them all. But to be safe look to see whether one of them has computer code that includes "searchmine." If so, delete that profile. That solved my problem.

For Chrome I don't know, for Safari:

  1. Quit Safari, then restart Safari while holding the "shift" key (this bypasses all Safari caches),
  2. Now in Safari->Preferences->Advanced: check the lowest line "Show Develop menu...."
  3. Now in Safari->History: Clear History->Clear all History
  4. Now in Safari->Develop: Empty Caches.

After this the pop up will not return.
