Apple Watch 3 international use

Hi there,

I am looking to purchase an Apple Watch series 3 in the US.

I will be moving back to South Africa shortly and was wondering if the GPS only series 3 watch would still work there.

I have heard the GPS+Cellular does not work, nor do we have carriers that support it.
