Mac mini Spinning Rainbow Beachball

I have a Mac Mini (late 2014). I'm having trouble with it's beach ball. We only use this for watching streaming video's. it almost freezes up when trying to open Safari or Fire Fox or any other app. Doesn't really matter what I try to do on it. spin and spin for a long time maybe 20 minutes or more. When it finally starts to open the app its still a long time.

attached is mt EtreCheck file. I hope someone can tell me whats wrong.

Thanks,

Ron

I also have a 2014 Mac mini. Although with a 2.6 GHz i5 CPU and 8 gb of RAM. I also had a lot of slow starting programs and beachballs. Culprit here was the slow hard drive in the mini.

I've bought a Samsung SSD and hooked it up through an enclosure to one of the mini's USB ports. Installed MacOS there, and my computer became much faster and now I barely see any beachballs anymore.

4 gb of RAM is also the bare minimum for MacOS.

Something happened with the Etrecheck report, can you try posting it again? I've never seen the type it broken up like that and it seems to be truncated. I can barely read it.

As SandsOfArrakis notes, the slow 5400 hard drive and low RAM isn't helping. But it shouldn't be so slow just opening browsers. If it was faster before then something else is slowing it down.

Yes that's lots better, I can read it! And everything looks OK, I don't see any obvious reason for the slowness you're experiencing. With the exception of RAM and HDD.

My best guess would be it could be something in your Home folder that's causing it.

You can troubleshoot by creating a new user account and testing. If it works as expected there, then we can come back and troubleshoot your user.

FWIW Adobe Flash Player isn't needed unless you have a specific site that is still not HTML 5. Most sites have been HTML 5 for years, which obviates the need for Flash. Also there are many scams to try to trick you into downloading a phony upgrade installer, so watch out for those. Only download Flash Player from within System Preferences > Flash Player > Check for updates or from Official Adobe Website.

Thanks for helping. This does have Flash Player often wanting to update. its a real nu-sense. I don't think she's updated it but who knows. I've tried to delete everything about Flash. Well, maybe the HDD is getting old. and the ram can't be updated so I've been told. Like I've said all this computer is used for is watching movies, and its some times all day. Yea I know that's to much but ... it is what it is. I'll try your suggestions first.will get back soon.

Thanks
