Unable to restore my iPhone 5c
Need to use old phone whilst the other is being repaired. Tried to restore and update but it continues to fail.
Any idea why or more importantly how to fix it?

I suspect it's a hardware issue with the phone; you may want to make an appointment with an Apple store for more help.
