overheating of iMac

My 27”” iMac displayed the following notice:

Disk Warrior Hardware Test Notice: The hardware built-in temperature sensor indicated an above-normal temperature of 136.4 F (68 C), this might indicate a failure or pending failure the could result in loss of data.

Device: WDC WD1003FBK=011Y781, VOLUME: MACINTOSH HD.

A couple of days later the internal HD failed to mount. It is now under repair.

i switched to an older 2015 iMac fed by an EXTERNAL HD, and it is now displaying a similar warning.

Please advise me what may be wrong.

trust Disk Warrior as far as you can throw it.

reset your smc

repeat this 3 times

if you are exceeding your heat limits the device would but shutting down or behaving very erratically. Your fans would also be running constantly.

In the mean time check your system is getting adequate ventilation, not in direct sunlight and the room is not too warm.

I suggest running the built-in Apple Diagnostics to determine whether there are any sensor errors being detected by the system. For more information go to:

How to use Apple Diagnostics on your Mac - Apple Support

If an error is detected record the information and contact Apple or your service provider for further assistance. I find it odd that you've experienced the same error on two different systems and drives, which indicates to me a possible error reporting or compatibility issue with the Disk Warrior software. You may want to contact Alsoft for assistance with Disk Warrior to confirm that you are running the correct version of their software for your system.
