can I trade in an iPhone with a broken and non-working display?

Hello, this September I am flying to study in New York for a month. And I really want to trade in my iPhone 7 in order to get a discount and buy an iPhone XR. But yesterday, while jogging, he fell out and the display does not work for me. I hear notifications coming and the phone is working but the screen is broken. Tell me please, can I trade in an iPhone with a broken and non-working display?

I hear that apple stores recycle trade in iPhones

Depends on what you mean by "trade in". For a replacement service they always require that the previous phone be handed over. Depending on the extent of the damage or defect they may opt to repair it at a central facility and then put it back in service as a replacement device. But for the trade-in they'll require that it be in good working condition with no obvious cosmetic damage or cracks in the screen.

A perfect iPhone 7 is worth a trade-in value of $140 in the US. The repair cost from Apple for the screen is $149 plus tax. It's not really worth it. If you want to perhaps keep the phone and give it away as a gift, it might be worth having the screen repaired.
