Digital Photo Hub

I keep reading that I should have a folder on the computer or an external hard drive where my photos are stored. The main place. Why is the Photos app not a good place for the "main" place and a back up external hard drive as just what it is : back up.

The photos app is the best place to organize and work with the photos.....


ideas?

The Photos app is used to view and organize photos but the photos aren't stored inside the app -- it is an application, not a storage location. They are stored in your Photos Library. The default location for that is your [username] > Pictures folder. You can view that location via Finder but you should not access the data in it directly -- i.e., use your Photos app.

The Photos application does not store the image file in itself. It creates a library where is stores and managed your photos. By default the library is located in your Users/Home/Pictures folder and will look like this in icon view:


You can opt to have the library on an external HD if your boot drive doesn't have sufficient space to house it. Your choice.
