Downloading a old version of a application on a iPad 1st gen

I need to download GarageBand on my iPad 1st generation iPad running iOS 5.1.1 , I tries to install it but it just says gives a message saying that the app is incompatible with this device. And with other apps it has an option to “download an older version of this app”.

Im wondering if there is a way I can look at the version history for a application (GarageBand) and download a specific version of the app.

Whether you can download an older compatible version will depend upon the developer (in this case Apple) and whether they support doing so - which it sounds like they don't.
