I am setting up my new Samsung Q90R, and the best audio that I can get from the built-in Apple TV app is Dolby Digital.
I've tested the VUDU app, and it plays Atmos just fine through my AV receiver setup.
So as the question title suggest, I would like to know if this app can even do Atmos on this Atmos-capable TV/receiver setup.

There's no mention of Atmos settings in the documentation and the app itself, so we have to assume that the app does not support it as of July 18, 2019.

That may be but if you aren’t receiving Atmos then something isn’t setup properly, or you are viewing content that doesn’t contain Atmos.
The app gives access to iTunes content, and if a title has the Atmos badge then it supports Atmos. Not all content does, including Apple TV channels. However, it isn’t the app that has control over sound output, that is done via the settings of the device.
It works the same way on the Apple TV hardware.
You would need to check your TV settings.
As I said above you will need to go into your TVs settings to make sure things are setup properly.
As I’ve stated in the original post, the built-in VUDU app plays Atmos just fine. Therefore, the settings on the Samsung and the AVR are correct.
