icloud confusion

I have been backing up on icloud for ages but only just decided to visit icloud.com to see what was there. firstly my device is not listed although I have just backed up my ipad and the new photos are there. The contacts and calendar entries are not there. The bar which shows how much storage I have used has a long purple portion for 'backup'. If I needed to restore my device would this 'backup' contain my contacts and calendar entries etc? Thx

iPad, iOS 12

That is a difference between iCloud Backup and syncing things to iCloud. You cannot view the contents of a backup on iCloud.com but you can view synced data there. The contacts and calendars that you can view at iCloud.com are a result of having turned on Settings > [username] > iCloud > Contacts and Calendars. They sync automatically to iCloud (and to other devices if you also turn that option on in them) any time you make a change. Personally, I use the sync settings to have as much data as possible synced to iCloud. I also have iCloud Backup turned on but my backups are very small as an iCloud Backup will not duplicate data that is already synced to iCloud.
