Migration Assistant

I am trying to transfer content from my PC to my new Mac. I have downloaded the Migration Assistant app and have followed the required steps on both devices. They are on the same network but can’t seem to find each other: the message on my PC is ‘waiting for your Mac to connect’ and on the Mac it is ‘make sure the Windows PC is connected to the same network’. Why are they not detecting each other?

Sadly an MBA would require a USB to Ethernet adapter...
