Call answered on another device?

Recently in the last week or two a few times my wife has called me while I was at work or whatever and somebody else answered. I could see my phone ring and then stop, and she says when that happens another person would say “hello?” On my call log for those calls it says call answered on another device, but I don’t have any other devices tied to my iPhone right now. Any help would be appreciated.

iPhone XR, iOS 12

Verizon. They said no call forwarding was active and dialed the turn off call forwarding number just in case, then turned off the phone and back on, said he flipped some things on and off on his side too but wasn’t specific and it hasn’t happened again. Hopefully it stays like this. But I don’t understand why the phone would all of a sudden start doing that. I never changed anything and nobody else uses my phone.

I think that, somehow, conditional call forwarding was enabled. When you talked to Verizon customer service, they turned it off at the switch level. It's possible that there was some sort of mistake on their end which was why he wasn't very specific. But, I'd write it off to a glitch in the system.

I say this based on 20 years of experience working for Verizon Wireless.
