what does it mean when someone says they got a call from u and then when they click on the call log on my name it says call answered on another device

That means that the call was answered on a device other than that iPhone. For example, when the call arrived, it rang on the iPhone and on an iPad or a Mac. The person chose to answer it on the iPad or the Mac instead of the iPhone.

The way this works is that a person can have an iPhone, a Mac and/or an iPad using the same Apple ID. There is a setting in the iPhone that Allows Calls on other Devices. When this is set to ON, then calls can be made and received from and to other devices.
