Is there a built in function for calculating the compound interest rate when you have Present Value, Future Value and number of compounding periods.
I can't see one in the list.
There is a function called "RATE"

Yes, that's what I did.
However, since we have PV and FV it seemed like there ought to be a function for this parameter, but apparently not.
:-). I had tried that previously but must have entered something incorrectly with the "optional" entries because I kept getting an error.
Tried it again at your suggestion and it worked.

select cell B5, then type, or copy and paste from here, the formula:
=(B2/B3)^(1/B4)−1
shorthand for this is:
B5=(B2/B3)^(1/B4)−1
