Using iCloud to store Photos

Hi there,

I am new to iCloud. I was wondering if it is possible to store some photos on iCloud, but then ALL photos on my Mac hard drive (kind of like a backup).

I heard that with iCloud, if I delete a photo from my phone iCloud, it will delete from my Mac iCloud. So I was wondering if if I could store all photos on my Mac as a backup.

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14

As LACAllen says, iCloud syncs your photo library and makes it accessible on all your devices.

If you use TimeMachine, and it is highly recommended to do so, you have a backup and you can go back in time if necessary.

This is how iCloud works https://www.apple.com/icloud/

The iCloud Photo Library is not off device storage. It is a syncing service., designed to keep your photo library the same between subscribed devices.

Any edits and changes made on a phone is mirrored to iCloud. That is the design.
