My iPhone voice mail stopped allowing callers to leave a message.

I have an iPhone 7 with Apple Care.  About 3 weeks ago callers to my phone number: heard a message that my voice mail was not set up.  They were told to try a second time.  Same

message.  The third time the phone hung up on them.  I've tested this several time myself using both my iPhone 5SE and home phone. It continues to do the same thing. 

 

CREDO (my carrier for this iPhone) spent almost 2 hours on the phone with me last Friday.  Three different agents worked with me to try to solve the problem.  Nothing worked.  They gave up and told me I needed to take the phone to Apple.  Do you have any advice that I can try before that or do I have to take it in?

I apologize. I wasn't clear. My phone conversation with them had ended and I was still trying to solve the problem on my own. I dreaded the idea of taking my phone in. It didn't make sense that it was an iPhone problem. Today I remember I hadn't checked with the community. You and the other person who answered gave me confidence that I can insist the carrier solved this problem. Greatly appreciated.

Contact your carrier back. They control voicemail, and they probably need to reset your voicemail account. There is nothing that you can do about that on your phone, nor can Apple. Voicemail resides on the carrier's servers, and when someone calls you and the call goes to voicemail, the carrier is controlling it. The message that voicemail is not set up comes from the carrier's servers. Someone gave you a real runaround at your carrier. When you call back, tell them that your voicemail needs to be reset and get someone on the phone that knows what they are doing.
