how do i set up java on a macbook air for my daughter to learn to code?
My daughter wants to learn Java. She will be the captain of her high school FIRST robotics team this fall and needs to understand Java to be able to program the robot. She has a MacBook Air 13 inch 2017 running High Sierra. She plans to follow 30 days of code. She previously installed JDK 10.0.2 from Oracle (last summer) and installed NetBeans as her IDE. We can’t seem to get NetBeans to see the JDK. She thinks her friends code Java on Visual Studios. She installed that but we can’t figure it out either. I tried installing JDK 12.0.2 on my desktop Mac running El Capitan (appears to have reached its OS limit... no updates) and I installed NetBeans but it doesn’t seem to see the JDK. I haven’t coded in 30 years (FORTRAN 77 in university) way back before Windows. This is new territory for me. Any advice, clues, help... usually Apple has simple solutions but I haven’t found one for this.
