MacBook Pro 2017 15 inch w/ touchbar, slow, laggy, and fans running on nearly full for no reason.

Had my MacBook Pro for about 2 years now, and all has been good apart from a minor keyboard issue (keyboard entirely stopped working while the trackpad was completely fine) that fixed itself, but now it’s just slow even with the most minor task, and it’s just came out of nowhere last night. The fan is running very heavily for no apparent reason with barely any load, and applications take forever to load up and are slow and laggy. Also, the rainbow wheel frequently pops up. Strange to go from a very fast MacBook to one that now feels like garbage. I’ve tried the classic shut down, turn on, restart, SMC reset, diagnostic (in which no issue was found?) with absolutely no results, still slow and garbage, what could the problem actually be? I’ve tried updating to the latest version of High Sierra but that didn’t solve it either. Any help would be great.

Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

See if you qualify: https://support.apple.com/keyboard-service-program-for-mac-notebooks

If you continue to have issues— To trouble shoot further you can:

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Test issue in another user (or guest user) account  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

If you still need help—To get a good look at your System config. for conflicts or issues, you can run this utility http://etrecheck.com

Cheers for the reply, but I’ve tried all of that and nothing has worked. The issue is still present in safe mode. The fans just run heavily and kernel_test is taking up over 600% of the cpu. I’m still able to control the fans with TG Pro, and I can look at the temperature readings as well, and none appear out or high. The CPU is only reading 43 Celsius as well. Something is clearly wrong though to make the CPU think it’s under heavy load even though it’s not. Starting to think it might be a hardware issue.
