Apple 4K Has No HDMI Output After Sleep

Hi everyone,

I have a brand new AppleTV 4k 32GB that I've connected directly to my 2019 Samsung 65" 4K TV. It is directly connected via HDMI, not via a receiver.

If my AppleTV goes to sleep (either through a time out or pressing sleep now), The apple TV can be woken (light turns on front), but the video never comes back, and the Samsung TV loses connection with it and says the AppleTV must be powered up despite it being on. I have to power cycle, then the TV sees the AppleTV 4K. This AppleTV 4K was just replaced because my last one bricked itself after an update. That unit had no such problem. If you engaged the Apple remote, the TV would turn on, and display the AppleTV 4K screen. Is this a known issue?

I've tried many number of combinations of unplugging and reseating HDMI cords, changing TV inputs etc. No dice. Very frustrating.

Any suggestions? known issue?

Thanks vazandrew!

Trust me, I tried everything. I knew it was something in the Apple TV, I have a FireStick on the same TV. I know, it's a long story. Has to do with YouTube. I just hoped the Apple issue wasn't going to require a call to the Apple Store...

Well...the problem has been corrected by the latest TVOS update. I ran the update yesterday evening, and this morning, with everything shut down (sleeping), I hit the MENU button on the Apple TV 4K remote, and Viola!; the Samsung turned on, the Sound Bar turned on, and the Apple TV home screen was displayed. Just like the olden days!

So, something in the last Op System for the ATV 4K, was shutting down the HDMI output when "sleep" was invoked, and then, not turning it back on upon awakening. Only a reboot would get the HDMI to output to the TV.

Thanks again for your reply.
