Extreme & Express PW Authentication Issues on Non-Apple Devices

Hi all,

Wondering if someone can help with this. Here's the scenario:

Yesterday, I was having some issues with my Samsung TV connectivity, so I decided to do a hard reset on my Airport Express. After it failed to initialize and add back on to the extended network, I decided to try some tests and hard wire it back to the AirPort Extreme on this floor. Then that started to act up as well, so thought I would go back closer to the source - the other AirPort Extreme upstairs. I did a hard reset on that, as well as the modem. It took quite a number of tries, and at least an hour before Airport Utility was able to add everything back on. No clue why any of this happened, but in the end, all Airports were reset and slowly added back on. All my apple devices worked perfectly fine.

Fast forward to today. Brother comes home, and he can't connect any of his devices as aside from his apple ones. His amazon/android device and his TV, streaming device keep giving "authentication failed" on the Airport Upstairs. However, there are no issues for him connecting those same devices connecting to the Airport extended network Downstairs. We rebooted, "forgot the network", etc. but only one of the three other non apple devices accepted the network passcode.

What gives? Any suggestions on how to fix the issue?

One thing maybe worth mentioning. The Upstairs Extreme was previously named, for example, UPSTAIRS. I renamed it UpStairs. Same password. Would that matter if I "forgot/deleted" all the networks on those devices? I'm pretty sure I've done this exact same thing before, but with zero issues like this.

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm baffled.

Changing names from all caps to include lower case matters. When you change names.. change it completely. Clients get messed up when you change .. although the issue might just be android.

Remember Samsung TV and lots of things other than phones.. Media players use Android as their OS.

And your android version on the TV does not upgrade too often.. some media players never do. With changes in the Apple airport firmware you could have blocked them from the network.

Your Apple stuff is automatically upgraded for the most part.

If you did upgrade the firmware of one or more of the airports just prior to this failure then my advice is roll back to earlier firmware.

I would also change all the names.. and network name and passwords.

Make names, short, no spaces and pure alphanumerics.

Passwords follow the same rules.. but can be longer.

Test as you go along. Because it sounds like you have a fairly complicated setup.

It would help us to have airport utility screenshot of all the devices.. and their summary pages.

Thusly.

Thank you. I'm out to head out for a trip, so reset the main router after I get back. I'll post some screen shots as well. Currently, no status reports on any of them.

No firmware updates lately. I think the last one I made was maybe a month ago or more. I'm thinking it may have something to do with having a same name, but with a different caps, giving android issues. The windows machine initially had that problem, but it went away after I deleted the network and re-added it. I don't miss using android in the slightest.

Thanks again for the tip. Will give it a shot after I get back.
