Facetime and imessage still shows old number even after updating apple id with new number

I recently changed my number. Facetime and imessage does not accept the new number and keeps searching for old number for activation.even the old number is removed from apple id and both apps are signed using apple id, still the number is not getting updated. How to solve this issue of migrating facetime and imessage to a new number
