My messages turn green, what does that mean?

I try to text one of my friends and the messages turn green want dose that mean

Green messages are SMS carrier based messages.


If you normally see blue messages for a specific contact, and suddenly they are green, it generally means the recipient or you do not have access to an internet connection. As such messages default to sending over SMS rather than iMessage.
