Ringer volume turns off when Bluetooth in car connects

Happens to me at around 50% volume.

it should be noted I can stop it from impacting my volume AFTER getting out of the car by turning off the ability to change ringer volume with side buttons.

I should also note that no matter what I do volume is at ZERO while connected to the car’s Bluetooth and not using it.

Seems to me like the problem was is the difference in how it should act when in hands free profile vs. streaming stereo Bluetooth profile.

New phenomenon in last year or so. Both my 2015 F-250 and 2018 Flex turn off volume on our IPhone 8's. Doesn't matter if we use the phone in the vehicle or not. Last March while on way back from FL in the truck ALL sounds (including text announcement), except the ringer when a call came in was muted, had shut down and restart phones to get sounds again. Now it just turns volume down but can be turned up without restarting phone.

So I tested out my truck without plugging in for CarPlay, which meant my phone was truly connected to Bluetooth. When my phone connected the volume on phone when all the up like it’s supposed to. When I got out of the truck the volume when back to original volume I had before entering the truck.

My Setting in my “sounds and haptics” the “change with buttons” is tuned on.

this is opposite of what someone in the previous responses which say to have turned off.

not sure what the fix is. Maybe it’s the newer GM/Chevy software 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don’t want to get my hopes up too much but since updating iPhone XR to IOS 13.6 Wednesday the lowering of ringer volume after phone disconnects from car Bluetooth has ceased. Manufacturers of consumer products quite often will not acknowledge a problem and then suddenly they fix it. Maybe that’s the case this time. Be interested to hear from others who have updated their phone software this week.

Why? Why Apple are you not at least responding? Is this just a forum for us to complain? What recourse do we have to correct this? I know what I'm going to do but why is allowing this to happen good enough for you Apple? Smdh

I have a 2020 Traverse and the 11 max pro. This issue must be resolved immediately! Today I went into a store and forgot to turn my volume back up. My 73 year old mother needed me at the front of the store for an emergency and I missed all of her calls. If something had happened to her because I couldn’t get to her in time then I would OWN Apple! Fix this issue Apple! This is ridiculous!!

same on my 2009 corolla, I recently just got a new head unit for my car and since the head unit replacement it has been doing this on my XR never had this issue on my previous head unit and you know what the strangest part about this whole ringer muting by itself is that I just went into my Bluetooth settings looking for a option to turn this annoying ringer thing off and after I was done I went to check my ringer volume and it was at 65% 🤷‍♂️

I’m having this same issue as well! I have an iPhone 11 and I just noticed it happening after updating to iOS 14.3! As soon as it disconnects from my cars Bluetooth, the ringer volume is automatically at max!

I have the same problem. It’s sooooo irritating. I literally have to bring the volume up manually every time I exit my truck. HELP!!!!

Quite strange I agree... I always have this setting turned off anyways because I don't find any value in changing the ringer volume often or ever

2019 GMC truck for my bf -- same thing happens. His iPhone 8 ringtone automatically goes to ZERO after linking to the truck's Bluetooth. He's missed a bunch of calls and alerts.
