Ringer volume turns off when Bluetooth in car connects

Here's what my iPhone XR is doing since IOS 14 update. When I start car and phone bluetooth connects the ringer volume gets set to zero. I think that's OK since ringer goes through car speaker then. When phone disconnects from car bluetooth the ringer volume slide appears in a "faded" view at zero. If i leave Settings and look again at slider it is back at the original volume setting which is a good thing. I haven't missed a call or message alert since update so I'm assuming volume is returning to original setting even though Settings may not show it immediately after disconnect. This whole issue has been strange since some of the fixes seem to work for some people and not for others. IOS 14 seems to have fixed problem for me but not for others.

I’m pretty sure the ringer volume on phone is supposed to go down low or off when connected by Bluetooth to any device including car. The problem for many is when volume does not get restored to original setting when disconnected from Bluetooth device resulting in missing calls due to low ringer volume. I had this problem with my iPhone XR and 2020 Blazer for many months early last year. It may have started with an IOS update. None of the suggested fixes like turning off “change with buttons” worked and then sometime (maybe due to an IOS update???) it started working correctly for me and ringer returns to normal set volume when disconnected from car audio system. I’m happy now but it sounds like some people continue to have issues with this glitch.

I am having the same issue as all the rest of you. I have a iPhone XR and every time I get into my car my volume is high, I turn the car off exit the vehicle and my volume is all the way down. I have a 2021 Chevy traverse, why are most of the people with this problem Chevy owners? Further more how do we fix this issue?

It's actually worse than what I've read here from my experience. For one, this issue occurred on my iPhone 5S and my 2019 Prius Plug-in Hybrid car. I thought it was an issue with Google Maps / my very old iPhone, but I use that pretty much use Google Maps every time I'm in my car... So, I got the new iPhone 12 Mini this past December, and I assumed the issue would be fixed with a more up-to-date OS. But, nope. And not with any suggested workarounds mentioned here. I recently turned off Bluetooth entirely to see if that would fix it. But, nope. Not if it's plugged in to charge...

It's amazing this is still an issue with the latest iPhone and latest iOS. I can kind of understand this as a feature, but as something you can't control in Settings is beyond me.

I am having the same issue with my 8 as well. Just bought a new 2019 GMC Sierra this weekend and every time I get in the truck the volume drops to 0 and never changes when i get out.

Yes, very frustrating! Hopefully someone will come up with a fix soon.

Did this work for you? If so it’s better than nothing...it’s slightly less annoying.

It’s the only work around to somewhat fix this problem. Still ridiculous.

Hi, I have the oposite situation. (Iphone 11 pro, ios 13.2.2

When I am connected at bluetooth the ringtone increase (without my will). Even if I put the volume down thru buttons, increases again by himaelf. Very anoing!

This is so incredibly frustrating. On top of the ringer level, now I'm noticed when I activate Siri, the voice volume is directly tied to the lowered volume, so I can't hear the siri beeps or feedback because the volume is so low. And, I've been in my truck and turned the volume back up, and I can literally watch my iPhone lower the volume again just a few seconds later.

I have the 11 Max Pro and a 2020 Chevy Traverse and this issue is happening with my phone. The moment it connects to my vehicle it turns the volume almost all the way down. Any updates on a fix yet?
