Ringer volume turns off when Bluetooth in car connects

Why does the ringer volume drop to nothing each time my cars Bluetooth connects to iPhone X? Even when manually turned up, volume zeros out with one touch of the vehicles volume control.

Apple could never figure this out when I contacted them and spoke with someone. I discovered that when I go in under the sounds for the ringer volume, I turned off where it says “change with buttons,” it fixed the problem for me.

I have the same issue, and the issue will require Apple software engineers to be ready to tackle the issue seriously. When connecting any device to an iPhone or iPad the output volume should be determined by the output device and the opposite. The output device should not change the volume of the iPhone.

When traveling in a vehicle, you set the audio volume to a level for all occupants, which may be at a higher level than would be desirable with earbuds or headphones. This could present a hearing problem if the iPhone resets the iPhone volume to a higher level than would be comfortable to the listener.

UPDATE

I recently commented on the affect of connecting a bluetooth device (vehicle audio system) to the iPhone. It was in effect surrendering the control of the audio volume to the auto’s radio volume control, but it doesn’t do that consistently. There is an anomaly with that I am still not understanding.

But the bottom line is, Apple needs to address this swiftly and offer its purchasers som confidence that Apple is wiling to correct problems with the devices it sells. This problem is one of several I have experienced and this volume control issue is serious because you may miss an important call solely because you do not hear the ring/alert etc..

The second issue I found, was “call blocking” doesn’t appear to work consistently because sometimes we receive calls from spammers that we “blocked”.

It’s bad enough that we are having our cellphones hi-jacked by unscrupulous hackers, but there doesn’t seem to be a serious effort to stop them, rendering our iPhones nearly useless. At a minimum to start with, an ”ignore” option should be seen when we see a “spam” call ringing. The next thing that must be done is mandate a “Mack address” accompany the transmission of a outgoing call, one that cannot be disguised as another phone number or caller name. That identification will improve the chances that the caller can be fined, in the first place. Our cellphones have become a connection to our families, friends, and even more they have become a safe/security lifeline.

If you unfortunately find yourself or a family member, or a another person in a life threatening situation your cellphones may be their only chance, don’t blow it.

I have the same problem in a different way. Let me explain: I have a brand new VW Passat. When I connect the phone to the car, my ringer volume boosts up to the maximum ( you have the problem on the opposite side). I had a BMW 3 series before this one and there were no problem at all. I will make a call to the local Apple support center tomorrow. We will see if they have an appropriate answer.

If the car manufacturer why does it happen to Fords, why to GM cars, I think there was even someone on this thread who had the same problem in their foreign car. Even IF it is the cars and not Apple, you would think, that if Apple really gave a **** about their customers, they would be researching the problem and telling the car companies what they need to fix.

Has anyone had any satisfactory solution to this flaw offered by an auto manufacturer or Apple? I haven't seen anything on this long thread that offers a true solution the consumer can use. So it seems that there is problem with the software the car manufacturers use or in the operating system of the iPhone. I have this problem with my 2020 Blazer. Never had this issue with 2014 Impala so I'm suspecting it's a GM problem except we have seen some Ford owners experiencing same issue.
