gift card

i have a gift card to redeem and when i tried it said "this code must be redeemed in the mexico storefront" i looked around on the internet and it said i need to change the region and billing address. Dose that work? if it dose what happens if i still have money on the account and i put the original region and billing address will everything get deleted? can someone please help or can i get a different gift card. Thank you.
