How Can I Tell If MacBook Pro's Hard Drive Is Original?

Hey Everyone,

Just got a Late-2013 MacBook Pro Retina (15") and I was told there is a chance the hard drive was replaced, but they aren't sure.

Without tearing open the laptop, is there a way to tell if the hard drive is original or third party?

Thanks!

None of the Retina models has a hard drive per se. They are all solid state drives in a card form factor in yours. Newer models have the SSD parts soldered and integral to the logic board.

Have you looked in Disk Utility? That might give you a clue. There are a couple of sellers (OWC and Transcend) of aftermarket replacements. Their listed capacities are 240/480/960 GB. Apple specs it’s SSDs at 128/256/512/etc. GB capacity. And if you suspect it’s not original, it could be a salvage part from another Mac.
