Creating a flickering effect?

Hello!

I'm transitioning from Sony Vegas to Final Cut Pro X, and I love it so far, except for one little thing.

While I was using Sony Vegas, I also had the sapphire plugins, which I was a huge fan of. I especially liked their flickering effect, it was perfect for certain scenes in the stuff I produce, like a flickering light from a TV, or a lightning strike lighting up a room for instance.

There's nothing like this on FCPX that I've been able to find, the closest effect is 'flashing', but it's not quite cutting it and not giving me enough tweaks to make it work for me.

I've heard you can tweak effects more on Motion 5 and add that onto FCPX, but I can't seem to even find the flashing effect on Motion 5 whatsoever.

I've searched around google and youtube for months trying to find a way to create a flicker effect, but they're all about removing flickering lights.

Does anyone know how I can get around this and actually create a flickering effect similar to that of the sapphire plugin?

Or Is there perhaps an effects package I could download or purchase for FCPX?

It took awhile to track down a demo of the Sapphire Flicker effect...

Give this one a try:

http://fcpxtemplates.com/ngtopics/sc_flicker.zip

Let me know when you download it.

Overview:

It's set up to flicker what the demo video referred to as the Luma (brightness).

There are parameters ("Amount) to vary the brightness (or intensity) of the Red, Green and Blue channels.

Each segment has a Frequency and Noisiness parameter as well as a Random Seed "generator".

The "luma" (Flicker) section also has a Mix parameter so that you can change the intensity of the brightness changes (or animate it).

Does this come close to the Sapphire plugin?
