AirPort Extreme Utility

Have flashing yellow light on airport. Trying to open the airport utility on our new Mac and the required password for our airport router is not allowing me into the Airport Utility to see what the trouble is

The AirPort Extreme has up to 3 different passwords.....

1) Base Station, or device password

2) Wireless network password

3) Disk password for an attached USB hard drive

Our guess would be that you may be trying to use the wireless network password to access the settings for the AirPort Extreme.

AirPort Utility is looking for the Base Station or device password to access the settings on the AirPort Extreme.

If you don't remember the Base Station password, you can reset it using a Soft Reset. Follow the instructions for a Soft Reset in the Apple Support document to reset the Base Station or device password for the AirPort Extreme.

If all else seems to be OK, the blinking amber light is likely a notification that there is new firmware available for the AirPort Extreme. When you open AirPort Utility, an Update button will appear if this is the case. Click the Update button to update the firmware on the AirPort Extreme.

If an Update button does not appear when you open AirPort Utility and click on the AirPort, look for the Status setting and then click on the small amber dot there. Another window will open with more information about what AirPort Utility thinks the issue might be.
