As soon as I pull out of the driveway I lose the Wi-fi connection on my iPhone6. How do I stay connected to Wi-Fi away from home. I cannot use the GPS on my phone because it says no internet connection.

You can find public wifi access points in many places (i.e. McDonalds, Starbucks, Libraries, Restaurants, Pubs and so on). Generally, many towns/cities offer (in internet) a complete list af all available public wifi networks.

Using GPS doesn't require WiFi. While leaving the WiFi feature turned on will increase the speed at which the phone locates itself, it's not necessary to connect to an specific network. And, in the event there is not WiFi where you are, GPS will still work.
I have tried to use the GPS for travel directions and it says no Wi-Fi connection. I looked at my plan with AT&T and it says I haveRollover data and unlimited talk and text so I don't know why data isn't working for Wi-Fi.

Do you have cellular data enabled for Maps? Go to Settings>Maps. Make sure Cellular Data is enabled.
When you leave your house you also leave the source of your Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi needs a source.

Data is a different signal (cellular) than Wi-Fi. The two are not related..
Yes cellular data is enabled.
Are you using the Apple Maps app? Or a different app (e.g. Google Maps, Waze)?
