mac computer device name stopped updating on icloud

I am trying to update the name of my macbook air and imac. I am going through settings/sharing etc. I do see that the machine names are updated on the LAN network, but it does not get updated on my icloud account when I login through the web. My ipad names did get updated though. Previously I could update the macbook air names and they did reflect on icloud almost instantaneously. I have High Sierra on one and Mojave on the other.
