"Other" storage space on Mac

I have 163.16 GB of "Other" storage space taken on my Mac and now only have a few MB free. It's has been causing me a lot of problems. I have removed most of my documents, put them on a hard drive and deleted them from the trash. I have no extra apps with the acceptation of some Microsoft products which have never caused me any problems and I have deleted all but my most recent phone backup.

Does anyone know where I should go looking next to delete stored files that I don't use?

A great place to start is using the free trial of DaisyDisk App to see what may be going on in terms of what is taking up that space.

You can also use the free/open source GrandPerspect App

http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net

You can also do it without any tools by using Finder. You can "drill down" through your file system by using Finder, go to the Go menu and select Computer, and opening Macintosh HD. Then go again to the View menu, select Show View Options, select the option to Calculate All Sizes and press Use as Defaults. Go to View menu again and select As List, and in about a minute the "Size" column in the view list will update from "--" to a specific amount. Then you can start drilling down through the file system to find the exact folder and file taking up an unexpectedly large amount of space.
