9.3.6 Bricked my iPhone 4s

Plugged my iPhone in to add new songs yesterday and got the new update notice for 9.3.6. Did not think twice about it and said yes to the update. Bad mistake! Just spent 45 minutes on the phone with support for them to tell me sorry nothing can be done. Phone is to old and we will not offer compensation for bricking it. So now I am out a really good music playing device because I trusted they knew what they where doing.

Apparently .... it's the old chestnut .... if you have had your phone repaired using non-apple parts (and lets face it - its a 4s so this is going to have happened a lot) the firmware stops installing when it detects these parts.

I had a battery replacement and after trying to do the update am in the same position.

Choices are:

Take into Apple and have them send it away and fix for usual ludicrous fee

Replace battery with Apple one

Buy 2nd hand 4s for £1/$1/€1

Start using Android phone to play music

I've gone with the last option and good riddance to Apple - so nice not to have anything from a company that has this mentality

I did have the battery replaced with a non Apple battery and it is stopping at the firmware update section of the update. Thanks you for that information, I did not know they would be that crappy to their customers. I agree with you on going to Android for a music playing device and saying good riddance to Apple. Thanks again for the information!

I,ve just had the same problem after being a loyal customer since 2012 with iphones and ipad. The spare good old 4S has been bricked by Apple when 9.3.6 was downloaded. I guess the replacement battery was probably not an official Apple one but the phone was in excellent working order and the local Apple shop I went to were clearly following the mantra - too old, can't do anything, buy a new one or go away !

Well Apple, you have just lost not one but a whole family of customers and I can assure you, your reputation will suffer if you are not prepared to show any integrity and treat your customers this way. Goodbye apple, Hello Android. Mike
