Apple Mail sending delay - 30 seconds

Hi

I'm using a Gmail account with Apple Mail. Whenever I send an email, it sits in the outbox for 30 seconds and then sends. If I immediately send another email it goes right out but if I wait 30 seconds then the delay is back.

I tried creating a new user and Apple Mail account on the same computer and it still delays for 30 seconds. Could this be a system wide setting (or bug)? The computer is a <6 month old iMac.

I set up the same Email account on a different computer and it sends email with no delay.

The Gmail setting to delay mail for 30 seconds is off in Gmail settings.

I would expect the connection to show a green dot since you indicated that the message eventually sends. I am more interested in having you select the 'Show Detail' option and then monitor the connection activity when the issue occurs to help determine where the 30 second delay is occurring. Is the delay occurring while the Mail application attempts to connect with the Gmail server?
