kernel panic three times since upgrading to 10.14.6

I upgraded to 10.14.6 on July 22. After that, I had a kernel panic on July 25 and twice today. Could anyone help with it?

Same thing happening to me.

Here is what I'm seeing:

  1. fails after random amount of time when my webcam is on while using: Facetime or Zoom. Sometimes as little as 1 minute in to the call. Sometimes as much as 25 minutes into the call.
  2. has never failed when using zoom without the webcam on.
  3. I tried the SMC reset. No change.

I'll update with any new information if / when I have it.

Same crash when using Skype or Zoom happening multiple times randomly. Mac OS X 10.14.6 (18G87). Everything started after update. I've reset SMC as advised by Apple but it didn't work.

I've made some stress testing and under 100% percent load for about an hour it didn't crash. So the problem seems to occur only when using camera in a call.

My panic string:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffffff01b079bec): "void AppleEmbeddedPCIeUpLinkMgmt::_linkInterruptAction(IOInterruptEventSource *, int): " "A link timeout has been seen after 100000 microseconds and 49999 iterations."@/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/AppleEmbeddedPCIeUpLinkMgmt/AppleEmbeddedPCIeUpLinkMgmt-76.260.2/AppleEmbeddedPCIeUpLinkMgmt.cpp:3982

I have been having the same problem, kernel panic on a brand-new Mac Mini 2019 after upgrading to Mojave 10.14.6 (18G87).

But for me the trigger is different -- it happens whenever Time Machine starts a backup. After a few seconds of "preparing", the machine freezes, then spontaneously shuts down. It appears to be reproducible on demand -- I just manually start a Time Machine backup, and the kernel panics.

I agree with others in this thread, waiting till Catalina to fix this issue is unacceptable. It may be a pain and inconvenient and embarrassing to have to spin up a macOS 10.14.7 or macOS 10.14.6 Supplement 2, but it needs to be done. I cannot back up my machine (e.g. to prepare for an upgrade to Catalina) without a fix to this issue in Mojave.

Attached is the crash report I see when I've restarted.

Aug 28, 2019 9:26 AM in response to cesarmascarenhas

Yes, you can download High Sierra (I have done it just yesterday to upgrade an older mac that can't run Mojave), but it is not obvious, as a search in the App Store produces no results.

HOWEVER, any mac that was released after Mojave cannot run High Sierra.

In that case, you could try installing Catalina beta instead.

Here is a link to download High Sierra:

I have the same issue.

With my camera video on in Zoom, I randomly experience a kernel panic since upgrade to 10.14.6.

Curious, did any of you have this before the upgrade?

Seems unlikely to be a 'logic board' issue if a software update triggered the issue.

Unless the new software is just not compatible with the hardware.

Still seems like a software fix instead of a costly logic board replacement.

Any other common denominator among our failing systems?

The Radeon Pro 560X?

The Intel UHD Graphics 630?

Aug 11, 2019 10:28 PM in response to gcinyc

My panic logs were exactly the same as the ones above (AppleEmbeddedPCIeUpLinkMgmt::_linkInterruptAction(IOInterruptEventSource *, int): \" \"A link timeout has been seen after 100000 microseconds and 49999 iterations.).

Apple returned my Mac (2018 MBP) very quickly and replaced the "Logic Board" (Diagnosis: Kernel Freezes) and "Touch ID Board" (Diagnosis: Cable causing Issue) in it, the diagnostics at the Depot were able to reproduce the issue I assume. Updated to 10.14.6 18G87, no reboots so far and everything works perfectly.

The replacement logic board came with macOS 10.14.4, but the current Boot ROM (220.270.99.0.0) and iBridge/T2 (16.16.6568.0.0,0) firmware version on it. My old logic board had the same firmware versions on it.

Same issue with my Macbook Pro 15" 2018.

Happens when I share my screen via Zoom! After some time screen goes black, machine shuts down.

The issue appeared first time 3-4 weeks ago. Not sure, it might be after Zoom updated its software?

My mac gets incredible hot during the screensharing (only Zoom, not Skype or Slack), but the fans don't seem to speed up - might overheating be an issue?

kernel panic three times since upgrading to 10.14.6
