How do I remove a card on file?

Apple Pay won’t accept a new debit card because the card number is the same. The expiration date and security card are different however. I believe that it is because of the card remaining on file with Apple servers. I have removed the previous card already and now it doesn't work. It's a copy of a question some guy asked some time ago, but the answer didn't really help me.
